It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen a coupe ute in North America. Although this body style was quite popular in Australia until recently, it vanished from the U.S. market decades ago. However, things could change in the future, as we are constantly getting reports about the comeback of the Rampage. The Dodge’s model has been in production in the early ‘80s and it looks like the new iteration could come already in the next year, as the 2022 Dodge Rampage.
At this point, the details are still unavailable. However, we see two possibilities for the new model. One of them is to see a classic coupe ute layout, which characterized the previous generation as well. On the other hand, there is also a chance to see a little bit different design approach, to see something like a unibody pickup truck. That is a design that’s becoming pretty popular these days.

2022 Dodge Rampage Design
As we’ve just mentioned, there are two possible scenarios for the 2022 Dodge Rampage. The first one is to see a typical coupe ute layout, a design that characterized the previous version of the Rampage. This would probably mean a single-row cabin layout and aesthetics borrowed from some of the existing models, such as Challenger, for example.
While some enthusiasts would love to see such a design, the fact is that a coupe ute wouldn’t be accepted by masses that well, most likely. Simply, such a design requires a lot of compromises and in the era of super practical SUV models, it’s hard to believe that such a Rampage would be able to mark decent sales numbers.
Unibody Pickup
The second and more probable scenario is to see a unibody pickup design, something similar to the 2006 Rampage concept. Simply, these kinds of trucks are getting quite popular these days, mostly because of superior ride quality compared to traditional body-on-frame units.
So, the new 2022 Dodge Rampage rather compete with models like Honda Ridgeline, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Ford Maverick etc. It would probably come in a double cab layout, with enough space to carry five passengers, as well as with a decently sized cargo bed. Styling-wise, we presume that a lot of inspiration would be taken from the full-size Ram 1500. Still, lots of exclusive details should come as well.

The main reason why unibody pickup trucks are getting more and more popular is the ride quality. Thanks to the overall layout that is quite similar to a typical crossover, the comfort is on a much higher level compared to traditional BoF trucks. Also, these models are notably lighter, which has a highly positive impact on fuel economy.
On the other hand, the only major drawback of unibody pickup trucks is lower towing capacity. Still, if we consider that many pickup drivers don’t use the full potential of traditional BoF vehicles, a pickup like a Rampage would be a more reasonable, comfortable alternative.
Interior
The interior would largely depend on the overall design. As we already mentioned, if the 2022 Dodge Rampage is about to come in a coupe ute form, it would feature just a single row of seats, which wouldn’t make it particularly practical. On the other hand, the unibody pickup design would probably bring a double cab design and two rows of seats, with enough space to accommodate five passengers.
Of course, we count on a modern cabin layout, characterized by modern aesthetics, nice materials and good overall build quality. Naturally, lots of tech features are expected too. We count on the latest infotainment system, lots of connectivity options, advanced safety features and all other things that are typical for contemporary cars.

2022 Dodge Rampage Engines
The engine lineup would probably include various options. Most likely, the offer would start from a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. It puts out around 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Also, we shouldn’t exclude the possibility to see a 3.6-liter V6 either. This engine puts out around 285 horsepower. Both units come paired with 8-speed automatic transmission.
Also, we believe there’s a chance to see some form of electrification as well. The V6 will probably come standard with a mild-hybrid system, but we count on a plug-in hybrid version too. We presume that would be the same system that was recently introduced in the Wrangler. It combines a turbo-four engine with an electric motor, for a total output of 375 horsepower.

2022 Dodge Rampage Release Date and Price
At this point, the 2022 Dodge Rampage is just a rumor and you should take its arrival with a huge reserve. On the other hand, some sources suggest this model could arrive already in the next year. If it arrives, we estimate that the base price would probably go around 25.000 dollars. The potential competition is seen in models like Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz etc.
