Despite that today’s automotive industry is mostly about electrification and alternate fuel, carmakers like Dodge are still holding their position very tight. There are models like Charger and Challenger, which will probably end their production in the next couple of years and that will probably be the end of the muscle car era. After that, the only thing we’ll be seeing on the road are hybrids and all-electric cars. However, some rumors say that Dodge’s management has a different vision of the future. The current models are still extremely popular, despite the age, so it’s not excluded to see another pure muscle car in production. Allegedly, the new model could come already as the 2022 Dodge Barracuda.
Rumors suggest that the legendary nameplate could be resurrected. Once under the Plymouth badge, the iconic pony could come in a new iteration, after almost 50 years. The new model would come under the Dodge’s badge, but we expect to bring the flavor of the original model in a pretty big portion. At this point, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this matter.

2022 Dodge Barracuda Design
The comeback of Barracuda would be a huge thing and the first thing that comes to mind is where it would be positioned in the brand’s lineup. The Challenger is a typical pony, while the Charger is a full-size sedan. So, the new 2022 Dodge Barracuda would probably be smaller. According to some reports, it would be around 7/8 of the Challenger’s size. What’s more important than the size is the mechanical aspect and there, we expect to see a lot of interesting things.
While the aforementioned muscle cars ride on an old, Mercedes-Benz-sourced platform, the new 2022 Dodge Barracuda would be a far modern car. At this point, there is just one thing that comes to mind and that would be the well-known Giorgio platform. This architecture would bring tons of improvements and the first thing that comes to mind is significant weight reduction. This model would be significantly lighter, more agile and better to drive than the Challenger. At the same time, it would come with a quite similar engine lineup.
As far as it goes for the styling, we can’t say much at this point. We presume there would be some resemblance of the original model, in a combination with modern details and design solutions. What we do expect to see are two familiar body styles on the offer. The 2022 Dodge Barracuda should be offered both as a 2-door coupe and as a convertible.
Interior
The inside of the 2022 Dodge Barracuda is still a mystery. At this point, it is extremely hard to talk about anything more precise. Still, as we already mentioned, one of the things we expect to see is a couple of familiar body styles. That would mean that all variants would probably come in a 2+2 seating configuration. Still, the second row probably wouldn’t be that spacious. Even the Challenger doesn’t offer plenty of space in the second row. The new Barracuda would be smaller, so we count on less passenger room as well.

On the other hand, we presume that the dashboard design would bring a bit of retro flavor, in a combination with modern design solutions. Of course, we expect to see lots of tech features as well, especially when it comes to the infotainment system, advanced driver aids etc. A large infotainment screen on the center stack is expected, while the instrument cluster will probably remain analog.
2022 Dodge Barracuda Engine
This is arguably the most interesting aspect of the possible 2022 Dodge Barracuda. At this point, we can only speculate but what’s almost a certain thing is that the new model would be offered with all kinds of powertrain options.
The offer would probably start with a small 2.0-liter turbo-four. This one would come in a few output variants, including the most powerful version with 270 horsepower. A 3.6-liter V6 would be available too, with a max power of around 300 horsepower.
Still, the real deal would start with eight cylinders. We presume that Dodge would offer all of its HEMI units, starting from a 5.7-liter engine. A bigger 6.4-liter unit would probably be reserved for the SRT trim, with a max output of 475 horsepower. Finally, we could also see a Hellcat version, equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter engine, with a max output of over 700 horsepower.
All engines would come in pair with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Also, certain versions could come with a manual transmission on the offer too.

2022 Dodge Barracuda Release Date and Price
At this point, the 2022 Dodge Barracuda is just a rumor and rumors say it could come already in the next year. We presume that the starting price would go around 30.000 dollars. The new Barracuda would compete with muscle cars like Camaro and Mustang, but also with other affordable sports cars, such as the new Nissan Z, Toyota GR86 etc.
