2022 Chevy Impala SS Review, Price, Coupe, Concept

The Impala is a well-known nameplate in Chevy’s portfolio. It’s been in production for decades and for all those years, it was always among the most popular models in the class. However, things have changed in the last few decades, and buyers are now more interested in SUVs and crossovers. As result, sales dropped down to the point that the nameplate was eventually discontinued in 2020. However, the latest rumors suggest that the company could bring back the nameplate, in the form of the 2022 Chevy Impala SS. At this point, there is still no official confirmation, so this comeback should be taken with a big reserve.

The 2022 Chevy Impala SS is just a rumor for now and the best we have are few rendering photos that circulate on the network. On the other hand, it’s really hard to make any predictions regarding base design, mechanics, powertrain etc. Some sources even speculate about the possibility to see it with an all-electric powertrain.

2022 Chevy Impala SS Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Chevy Impala SS is nothing more than a rumor. The only thing we have at this moment is a couple of rendering photos, which show quite interesting styling. The look of the rendered model is heavily inspired by the 7th generation of Impala but upgraded with all kinds of additional styling details. This particularly refers to the bodywork, as well as to bigger wheels, lowered ground clearance and similar things.

Of course, if the new model is about to come, the mechanics would be completely new. At this point, the only thing that comes to mind is the Alpha platform, which underpins the current-generation Camaro. So, the new Impala would come with rear-wheel drive, as well as with a longitudinally mounted engine. As far as it goes for the body style, we would expect a typical 4-door sedan layout.

Interior

On the inside, a four-door interior layout should ensure a sufficient amount of passenger space. Thanks to the long wheelbase, the amount of legroom should be very generous in both rows. As we are talking about the “SS” badged model, we presume that the company would want to accentuate the performance character of the car. So, bucket seats and similar kinds of upgrades are some of the things that come to mind.

When it comes to the dashboard design, it’ shard to talk about details. Still, we presume that Chevy would offer a new interior layout, with a dashboard that looks more attractive compared to the current models in the lineup. We count on nicer materials, better build quality and more attractive aesthetics. Furthermore, we also count on all kinds of tech goodies, which would make this cabin look even more upscale.

2022 Chevy Impala SS Engine

The SS badge indicates plenty of power and if we consider that the 2022 Chevy Impala SS would probably share most parts with Camaro, we see no reason why the engine wouldn’t be shared as well. At this point, the only engine that comes to mind is a good-old 6.2-liter V8. This engine comes in different output variants but we presume that the new Impala would feature the one that puts out around 455 horsepower. That feels like more than an adequate amount of power for a performance-oriented sedan.

Other than the V8, the new model could also come in slightly toned-down variants, equipped with something less powerful. If that happens, we presume one of the choices would be a 3.6-liter V6 with around 300 horsepower. A more modern and more efficient turbo-four engine option is also a possibility.

2022 Chevy Impala SS All-Electric

Another scenario that should be taken in consideration is to see the famous nameplate used for a new all-electric model. That makes sense, considering that such a moniker would certainly have a positive effect in terms of popularization, especially if something like an all-electric sedan is in the works.

On the other hand, details about specs and performances are still a mystery. At this point, we can only speculate and make predictions about possible numbers and configurations. We presume that the new 2022 Chevy Impala SS would come with electric motors on both axles, with plenty of power and excellent acceleration. However, some lower grades would probably feature a single electric-motor setup, with less power and better range. Speaking of the range, we presume that the new Impala would be capable of making at least 300 miles on a single charge.

2022 Chevy Impala SS Release Date

If we can trust rumors, the 2022 Chevy Impala SS could arrive already in the next year. However, this model is just a rumor for now. So, it’s still unclear whether the new model is even about to come or not. We expect to find out more details about this in the near future.
