The original version of this large crossover was discontinued last year, after more than a decade of production. Due to its age, this was pretty much expected. This model has never been a hi-volume model, but always had a decent group of followers. That’s why many reports suggest this discontinuation is only temporary and that the 2021 Ford Flex will come back, with a completely new design. This is just a rumor at the moment, but we can’t exclude this possibility, especially if we consider that the Blue Oval company is dropping all passenger cars and focuses on SUVs, crossovers and trucks. In any case, take the following paragraphs with a reserve.

2021 Ford Flex Redesign
This comeback would definitely bring a lot of interesting things. Although this would be a completely new model, we doubt that the company would go too far away from the original, when it comes to the overall design. This means we would see that super boxy layout once again, freshened up with the new front end and other styling details. Also, the new model would probably get a couple of more inches in wheelbase and become even more spacious.
Another thing we should talk about is the platform. As you probably know, the base model was built over a well-known D4 platform, but we believe that the new model would come riding on a new CD6 architecture, the same one that undeprints the new Explorer. Among other novelties, this also means switching to rear-wheel drive.
Interior
The strongest point of this crossover has always bee utility. With so many space on the inside, this model was a perfect choice for all those who search for a vehicle with huge passenger and cargo volume. This particularly refers to the cargo volume. Not only that the numbers are great in the original model, but the super boxy shape also allows every cubic foot to be used. That’s something you won’t find in most other places.

Therefore, we don’t expect the biggest changes for the next-generation model, though there should be even more space. On the other side, we count on completely new dashboard design, which higher overall quality and finer materials. Of course, we also count on modern aesthetics, as well as on a full load of the latest tech goodies. This is primarily a family car, so we count on loads of tech features in all three rows of seats, including charging spots, USB ports, screens, climate controls, screens and many other things.
2021 Ford Flex Engines
This aspect shouldn’t bring any particular surprise and we have no doubt that the 2021 Ford Flex would stick to the company’s proven solutions. In practice, this means a couple of familiar EcoBoost units, starting from a 2.3-liter EcoBoost, which delivers around 300 horsepower. We also expect to see a new 3.0-liter V6, which puts out a full 400 horsepower. Of course, this engine would be reserved for hi-grade trims.
Electrification also seems like a certain thing. So, if the 2021 Ford Flex is about to arrive, some form of a hybrid setup will definitely come. Will it be a classic hybrid setup, a plug-in hybrid version or both, it’s hard to say at this point. In Ford’s current portfolio, you can find a nice hybrid based on a 3.3-liter V6, which delivers around 313 horsepower. There is also a new PHEV system, which can be found in the new Explorer, which puts out an impressive 450 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.

2021 Ford Flex Release Date and Price
If the 2021 Ford Flex is about to come back, we could see it already in the next year. We presume that base models would go somewhere between 30.000 and 35.000 dollars.
