The 2019 Ford F-550 is the last pickup truck you will see before we step into the new world. This is the last model of Super Duty lineup. The bigger one, F-650 is already medium duty truck. Well, the Ford F-550 reminds us of such vehicle. But, it is not. Compared to its smaller siblings, this truck comes with dual rear wheel configuration, while it is optional on lower levels.
For the 2019 Ford F-550, there are no big changes. This truck is made to tow. And it will do it successfully, either with petrol or diesel engine. Buyers will be happy to configure their vehicle since the Blue Oval company offers plenty of options. There are 4×2 and 4×4 drive, two engines, and of course, cab configurations. Also, owners of the F-550 will attach whatever they want to the truck instead of the factory-mounted bed.
2019 Ford F-550 specs
Under the bonnet of the 2019 Ford F-550 is a huge 6.8-liter V10 petrol engine. This is the base solution for a big truck, while its smaller siblings in class 5 also come with 6.2-liter V8. The Triton powertrain is mated to a SelectShift six-speed automatic transmission. It transfers power either to two or all wheels. For the Super Duty segment, this engine is good for 290 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. In medium-duty class, the output raises to 320 hp and 460 pound-feet.
Diesel engine
A PowerStroke turbodiesel is the alternative. Instead of weak petrol engine torque, we are getting the massive boost to 750 lb-ft. It is possible with a 6.7-liter V8. Also, the displacement delivers 330 horses for great hauling record. Again, power could be distributed to all or only two wheels.
Towing capacity
These are all numbers which are there to impress. But, in the end, the only important question is – how much 2019 Ford F-550 can tow? Of course, it depends on the configurations. But, what are the maximum values for both petrol and diesel engine? The gasoline unit is less potent, as expected. However, towing capacity of 21,000 pounds is not for a laugh. No many other trucks can achieve. Even if they do, that is easier with a diesel engine.
But here, the 2019 Ford F-550 moves the limits once again. The maximum towing capacity of PowerStroke unit supported by dual wheel configuration is 32,000 pounds.
2019 Ford F-550 options
Buyers of the 2019 Ford F-550 will have similar options as for the current model. First of all, there are three cab configurations. Regular Cab is standard. Upper variant, as for all Ford’s trucks, is SuperCab. The biggest cabin with four doors and room for five is Crew Cab. Also, there is the choice for wheelbase length and rear axle ratio. Unfortunately, the Ford F-550 is coming only with dual rear wheel configuration. Well, buyers can’t complain about balance and traction with this feature.
Trim levels
The Super Duty truck will offer some of the trim levels we can see on more popular vehicles. These are entry-level XL, mid-range XLT, and in this case, top trim – Lariat. There are some rumors that Raptor could arrive at Super Duty segment, but even if that happens F-250 or F-350 eventually could get it. But, the 2019 Ford F-550 could get King Ranch or Platinum, as the new most expensive truck.
2019 Ford F-550 price
The 2019 Ford F-550 will be available from $40,000. SuperCab adds $2,000 to the value, and Crew Cab $3,000. If you want a diesel engine, prepare $10k more. The base truck uses 4×2 configuration. As an option, 4×4 costs $3,500 for all trim levels and configurations. Finally, the most expensive F-550 next season will be Lariat model in Crew Cab version, and with diesel, powertrain using the 4×4 drive and 4.88 axle ratio on rear wheels. This one will cost above $65,000.
