After Ford’s announcement that they will slow down the development of their sedans and hatchbacks, it seems that its archrival is doing the same. It is obvious that cars are losing the battle to crossovers. Bigger, safer, more powerful, but not too much more expensive, SUVs are the future of the car industry. General Motors is recognizing that and invests more money in that segment. Sedans will suffer and we can know that by analyzing the 2019 Chevrolet Impala.
The upcoming model will have only three changes. Well, these could be big ones. But, unfortunately, they are not. The loss of one color option is not a change we want to see. Wheel locks are an additional feature. Now, we will have more options there with availability across more trim levels. Final modification is leather inserts in LT package. These modest changes are clearly showing the direction of this class of cars. All the fans should enjoy them while it is possible.
2019 Chevrolet Impala future
The first Impala appeared way back in 1958. Until then, we saw two discontinuations. But, with so many fans, it is not easy for Chevy to drop this vehicle. The first cut sedan had in 1985, and it came back after 10 years to see only two production models. Again, it returns in 2000, and launches only two new generations. The last one is from 2014 and it seems like the carmaker have no intention to change that.
In next couple of years, we won’t see any major change on the sedan. Only three for 2019 Chevrolet Impala could be more than enough since the policy of the GM is similar to Ford’s. The Blue Oval company is losing interest in new models of Taurus, Fiesta, and Focus. The same expects Chevy vehicles, and the first one to suffer is a full-size Impala.
2019 Chevrolet Impala specs
The 2019 Chevrolet Impala is coming with the same drivetrain lineup as its predecessor. In future, the company could change things up under the bonnet. But, in 2019, we will see Impala with a 2.5-liter inline-four drivetrain. This is an efficient unit, with 26 mpg combined. A six-speed automatic transmission sends power to front wheels. No other configurations are available for 2019 Impala with this or another engine it offers.
The second mill is a 3.6-liter V-6. This one can produce more power. Buyers will get 305 hp and 270 lb-ft, which is much better, compared to the I-4 engine. The smaller unit is just under 200 hp and has 191 pound-feet of torque. The same transmission and drive are available for a V6 engine.
2019 Chevrolet Impala trim levels and options
The base models of the 2019 Chevrolet Impala will carry the LS badge. An 8-inch infotainment display is standard for this version. Bluetooth and USB ports are options if you want to plug or connect your phone. Main safety features are rear view camera and 10 airbags.
The upper trim level is LT. It adds dual-zone climate control and power-adjustable seats and head restraints. The steering wheel and shift knob are wrapped in leather. Top of the range is Premier model. This one will come with a V6 engine and leather seats. Passenger seats up front are getting an 8-way power adjustable setup. Also, bigger 19-inch wheels are standard for Premier model, while other versions are using 18-inch rims.
2019 Chevrolet Impala release date
Without big updates, the 2019 Chevrolet Impala will come quietly. The sedan is not a priority for the company, and we can’t expect it on some big show. The good thing is that the car is not going to be more expensive. It will start from $29,000 for LS. The LT model is slightly more expensive. The most luxurious vehicle in the lineup is Premier and its cost will be $37,500.
