2022 Cadillac Eldorado review

2022 Cadillac Eldorado Review: Price, Release date, Specs, Interior

Yes, it’s possible. If we look at the direction where Cadillac is going, there’s a big chance that we will see the iconic nameplate activated again. Not so long ago, GM’s luxury branded stated that the new naming policy will include real monikers, instead of combinations of letters and numbers. Lincoln already did such a thing and it turned out as a good move. Naturally, the first thing that came to our minds was a revival of good-old nameplates that shaped Caddy’s pedigree through the decades. Among them, one of the first monikers that come to mind is the 2022 Cadillac Eldorado. This model has been a part of Cadillac’s offer for a full fifty years.

The Eldorado is one of the most iconic nameplates in Caddy’s history. It’s been in production between 1952 and 2002 and during these five decades, we saw numerous iterations. Now, it looks like it’s time for its revival.

2022 Cadillac Eldorado Design

At this point, the 2022 Cadillac Eldorado comeback is just a rumor. The officials are still quiet, which leaves plenty of room for speculations, and the only thing that’s left to use is to make predictions based on them.

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the base layout. Throughout history, the Eldorado was best-known for its legendary convertible body still, while the coupe version was common as well. Earlier generations were offered in four-door layouts as well. Given the situation in today’s automotive industry, it’s hard to say if such an impractical body style seems particularly likely or not. Also, keep in mind that Caddy is preparing a new 5-door liftback called Celestiq, so launching something too similar doesn’t make much sense.

Finally, let’s neglect the fact that SUVs and crossovers are taking over the market. So, even though an Eldorado with such a body would look a little bit odd, we should take this possibility into consideration as well.

2022 Cadillac Eldorado Platform and Drivetrain

If we look at the direction of the modern automotive industry, there’s a big chance to see the 2022 Cadillac Eldorado as an all-electric vehicle. If this happens, we have no doubt that the new model would use the company’s brand-new architecture, called Ultium. This platform is all about electric cars and it supports a wide range of battery displacements, as well as all kinds of drivetrain configurations.

In such a scenario, the new Eldorado would probably feature a battery capacity of, at least, 100 kWh, if not more. When it comes to power and performances, we presume that at least two configurations would be offered. Base models would probably come with a single electric motor. AWD variants with motors on both axles would be offered too. We believe that base models would feature the same electric motor as the upcoming Lyriq crossover. This means a max output of 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. More details should come in the near future.

Interior

Of course, this aspect is a complete mystery at the moment. Still, we believe that the base approach would have a lot of things in common with the upcoming electric Escalade SUV. The full-size SUV has just arrived and it features a dashboard that combines luxury with plenty of high-tech features. This particularly refers to massive screens, which cover infotainment, instrument cluster, and many other parameters.

The 2022 Cadillac Eldorado would come with something similar, but we have no doubt it would feature lots of unique design solutions as well. Furthermore, we also expect the implementation of the company’s latest tech achievement in the field of advanced driver-assistance features, such as the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system.

Is there a chance for internal combustion?

Enthusiasts would rather have something more conventional. Instead of full electrification, they would like to see conventional gasoline engine options or, at least, hybrid powertrains. If that’s about to happen (chances are really small), the new 2022 Cadillac Eldorado would probably ride on the company’s familiar Omega platform, which seems like the only appropriate for a luxury car like this.

That architecture was the basis for the CT6 model. However, we presume that the new Eldorado would be bigger and even more upscale. One of the possible engine options is a 4.2-liter twin-turbo. It is extremely expensive but offers impressive power and torque. Depending on the version, it can range from 500 to 550 horsepower. We believe the updated version could increase these numbers even more.

Unfortunately, chances to see the revived 2022 Cadillac Eldorado going in this direction are minimal.

2022 Cadillac Eldorado Release Date

So, if the new Eldorado is about to come, it will most likely go fully electric. That means it wouldn’t come that soon, even though some sources suggest it will hit the market already in the next year, as the 2022 Cadillac Eldorado. A few more years to wait for sounds more likely to us.
