2021 Jeep Wagoneer: A Highly-Anticipated Comeback

Big things are about to happen this year when it comes to FCA SUV lineup and the 2021 Jeep Wagoneer is definitely one of them. After decades of waiting, the famous nameplate is coming back. FCA is about to enter the segment of full-size SUVs, finally. So far, this company didn’t have a model that would compete with models like the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition. Now, we are finally about to see a Jeep model with the body-on-frame layout.

As you may presume, the new model will use the same architecture as the recently redesigned Ram 1500, which definitely promises a lot in terms of performances and overall ride quality. At this point, the company is still quiet on this matter, so the exact details about the new model are still missing. Still, some of the main design characteristics are pretty certain. The new model should arrive in the second half of the year.

When it comes to base design characteristics, there is no doubt that the most significant thing about the 2021 Jeep Wagoneer is the fact that it will ride on a body-on-frame platform. This means we are talking about a genuine full-size SUV, which will be capable in so many ways. As you may presume, the recently-redesigned Ram 1500 will serve as the basis for the new SUV. It will borrow the platform and most of the mechanics. Still, the two models won’t be identical in terms of mechanics. We expect a couple of upgrades in the 2021 Jeep Wagoneer, particularly in terms of chassis setup and suspension. One of the things that come to mind is the independent rear suspension, which is already a standard feature in the Expedition and will be in the new Tahoe as well. Therefore, this feature seems like a must for the new Wagoneer.

2021 Jeep Wagoneer Exterior

When it comes to the exterior design, the first thing that comes to mind is that this will be a pretty big vehicle. We count on more than 120 inches in the wheelbase. Furthermore, a stretched version in the form of Grand Wagoneer will come as well and it will compete with the Suburban and Expedition Max. In terms of aesthetics, we count on a relatively traditional approach. As we are talking about the future flagship model, there’s no doubt that Jeep won’t make any experiments in terms of the styling. Count on the familiar front face, characterized by the famous grille layout, while the overall shape will be pretty typical for this class of vehicles.

A common wagon-like body style is something you can count on. Of course, a couple of exclusive details is expected as well,  though we definitely don’t expect to see those legendary wood panels from the side.

Interior

The first thing we should mention about the interior is that the new cabin will be petty big and spacious. If we consider that the new model will measure more than 120 inches in wheelbase, we count on three quite spacious rows of seats. All three rows should be adult-friendly and the max seating capacity will go up to 8 passengers. Of course, we count on the second-row captain’s chairs as well, which would reduce seating capacity to 7 adults. Also, we count on a quite spacious cargo area, with more than 100 cubic feet of the overall cargo volume.

When it comes to the interior layout, Jeep models have always been known for good interior quality, so the 2021 Jeep Wagoneer shouldn’t be an exception. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which should be full of quality materials, and full of latest tech goodies.

2021 Jeep Wagoneer Engines

When it comes to the powertrain lineup, we count on familiar FCA units. Base models will probably come with a 3.6-liter V6, which is good for about 305 horsepower. Still, the real deal should start with V8 units. The familiar 5.7-liter V8 will definitely be in the offer. This engine delivers around 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, and it is also available with a mild-hybrid system called eTorque, which improves fuel economy. Finally, we count on a performance version, which should come with a bigger 6.4-liter V8 and feature a max output of 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.

Some reports also suggest a possibility to see a diesel version in the offer. That version would feature a familiar 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel, which is good for about 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Some form of electrification, probably a PHEV, is expected as well.
