The GMC Granite has been in conversations for a full decade and it looks like something is finally going to happen, according to the latest reports. After years of rumors and speculation, it looks like something is really happening. Allegedly, the GM’s subsidiary is working on a brand-new crossover, which will be the smallest in the range, aiming those drivers that prefer efficiency and affordable price, instead of GMC’s traditional values. The new model is expected to come as 2021 GMC Granite and we expect it will have some similarities with the concept version that appeared a decade ago. Still, we also count on a completely new layout, filled up with the latest technologies and features. We could see it on the market already in the next year.
2021 GMC Granite Redesign
Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the size and platform. This will be the smallest vehicle in the brand’s lineup, a subcompact crossover like it was the case with concept version. Therefore, you may presume that a lot of things will be shared with the new Buick Encore GX. This means riding on a new VSS platform, which should bring benefits in terms of the ride quality and overall comfort.
The thing that bothers most experts is the styling. If you remember the concept version, you know it features a quite interesting body shape, which wasn’t a typical SUV layout, but rather a combination of crossover and minivan body styles. Such layout seems pretty good in terms of interior space, though the latest reports suggest we would rather see a little bit more conventional layout in the production version. More details will be known in the near future.
The same thing goes for the interior design, which is currently a bit of a mystery. If the production model comes with the same body style like the concept, we may presume that the amount of space and practicality would be on a pretty decent level. On the other side, a more conventional crossover layout would probably mean slightly less cargo space and practicality.
When it comes to the dashboard and overall cabin design, it is hard to talk about details. The concept version came with some pretty interesting design solutions, but that was a decade ago, so it doesn’t look much contemporary. That’s why we count on a completely new layout, which would implement new styling solutions, finer materials etc. Also, we count on a decent load of the latest tech and safety features.
2021 GMC Granite Engine
Considering that the 2021 GMC Granite will probably share most of its mechanics with the Encore GX, we presume it will also use the same engines. This would mean a couple of three-cylinder engines. Base models would come with a smaller 1.2-liter engine, which puts out around 137 horsepower. This engine comes in pair with a CVT gearbox.
On the other side, higher trims would probably come with a 1.3-liter engine, which is good for about 155 horsepower. Besides more power, this engine also comes in pair with much better 9-speed automatic transmission, while you may also count on optional AWD layout. That’s a nice benefit.
2021 GMC Granite Release Date and Price
Some sources suggest that the 2021 GMC Granite could arrive already in the next year. However, keep in mind that this small crossover is just a rumor at the moment and that the company is still quiet. When it comes to the price, we count on typical numbers for the segment, which would means somewhere around 20-22.000 dollars, roughly. More details should be known in the near future.
