Even though crossovers are dominating the market, there is still a high demand for traditional body-on-frame SUV models. Moreover, that demand is getting higher these days. Therefore, it’s no wonder that a couple of new models are about to come in the near future. It the segment of mid-size SUVs, the 4Runner is practically the only model in the offer, along with the 4-door Wrangler Unlimited. However, the legendary Ford Bronco is coming back, so you may presume that GM is preparing an answer as well. Most likely, that will be the 2021 GMC Envoy.
Those who remember this BoF SUV known that it was in production between 2001 and 2009 and that it was a quite popular model. However, it was replaced with crossovers like Terrain and Acadia. These days, GMC needs something more capable in the offer, so the 2021 GMC Envoy seems natural. The latest reports suggest we could see it in about a year or two.

2021 GMC Envoy Redesign
At this point, there aren’t many details known about the 2021 GMC Envoy. Still, it is pretty much certain that the new model will stick to its traditional design solutions. That means you may count on a traditional body-on-frame design. It’s not hard to presume that the new model will be based on the Colorado/Canyon pickup truck. The new 2021 GMC Envoy will use the same platform and most of the mechanics. Moreover, we may see a look that closely resembles the GMC Canyon pickup truck. Of course, this particularly refers to the front end, which could look pretty similar. On the other side, the rest of the SUV will come in a typical design for this type of vehicle, which means a relatively long, wagon-like body and quite boxy overall shape. Additionally, we may see a couple of details that will make this model a little bit distinctive.

2021 GMC Envoy Interior
When it comes to interior design, we don’t know any details at the moment. However, we can speculate. According to some rumors, the 2021 GMC Envoy will be a three-row crossover. Of course, the third row will probably be a little bit tight, but this will still be an advantage over Bronco and Wrangler. Therefore, the Envoy will actually be 4Runner’s new rival. In terms of the interior layout, we may presume that the dashboard will look similar to the one found in Canyon. That’s not a bad thing at all, considering that the Canyon’s cabin actually looks pretty good and that the overall interior quality is more than decent. Besides quality materials, we also count on lots of tech goodies, including the latest infotainment system and a relatively large touchscreen interface.
Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, it’s not hard to presume that the 2021 GMC Envoy will feature the same engines as the two related pickup trucks. This means that base versions will probably come with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which is good for about 200 horsepower. Of course, you may count on a 3.6-liter V6 as well. This engine is good for about 310 horsepower, which will be enough to provide pretty strong performances and driving dynamics.
At this point, it is hard to predict whether the 2021 GMC Envoy will come in diesel version or not. If it comes, you may count on a familiar 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 180 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque, which would be a great choice for those who need an SUV with great towing capacity.

2021 GMC Envoy Release Date and Price
The 2021 GMC Envoy is still just a rumor, so take this article with a reserve. Still, keep in mind that various reports suggest the new SUV could arrive already in a year or two. When it comes to the price, we presume that base models would go between 30.000 and 35.000 dollars.
