The Fusion sedan may be dead, but that’s not the case with the familiar nameplate. According to the latest reports, the Blue Oval company will continue to use this nameplate but the new model will come in a notably different form. So far, this nameplate was reserved for a family sedan. In Europe, this model is known as Mondeo. The new generation will be a kind of crossover wagon, which leads us to the conclusion that Ford works on something that can rival the legendary Subaru Outback. The testing model has already been spotted a couple of times and we expect to see it as 2021 Ford Fusion Wagon.
This will be a typical family car. With a wagon body and higher ground clearance, it will be both practical and rugged. From what we can see on the spy shots, it will look great as well. Count on the brand’s latest design language, introduced with the new Escape, Focus and other models. It’s still early for the exact details about the release date, but we presume the new model could come already this fall.

When it comes to base design characteristics, the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. From what we know so far about this model, it looks like Ford is about to rely on proven design solutions. The 2021 Ford Fusion Wagon will ride on a familiar CD4 platform, the same one that underprints the current generation of Mondeo. In practice, this means a typical FF layout, though AWD seems like a certain thing as well. In terms of size, we may see some stretching compared to the current Mondeo, which is good for about 112 inches in terms of the wheelbase.
Obviously, the main characteristic of this model will be a new body style. The wagon body will bring many benefits, starting from significantly more cargo space. After all, Fusion and Mondeo have already been available in such layouts. This means we are about to see a couple of exclusive details for sure.
Interior
On the inside, we may expect Ford’s latest design philosophy in terms of the dashboard design. This means a mixed approach, which utilizes loads of advanced tech goodies but also keeps things a little bit conventional, with the presence of physical buttons. Of course, the list of standard and optional features, especially tech and safety goodies should be pretty long. In terms of the overall layout, you may count on two spacious seats, in a combination with a really generous cargo area.
2021 Ford Fusion Wagon Engines
Under the hood, we have no doubt that the 2021 Ford Fusion Wagon will stick to proven solutions. Most likely, base models will come with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 250 horsepower. On the other side, higher trim levels will certainly come with something more powerful and as you may presume, one of the engines that comes to mind is a 2.7-liter V6, which puts out around 325 horsepower. This engine could be a great choice for an ST-badged model, while we also count on something that would put the focus on efficiency. That would be a hybrid version of the new wagon crossover, which would probably be based on a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine.
