It seems like the Blue Oval company is giving up from the 2019 Ford Fiesta RS. Few reasons are behind such an outcome. First of all, bosses believe the ST version is delivering enough power and aggressiveness for buyers that like the boosted models. Furthermore, development is not going as they wanted. Ford is not ready to invest more. Finally, they are offering slightly bigger Focus RS, so the opinion is that fans will be happy to see at least one RS on the market from similar classes.
On the other hand, this is not the final decision. We can understand policies, savings, frustration. But, benefits of the 2019 Ford Fiesta RS are certain. First – the vehicle is smaller and cheaper than Focus RS. Then, we want to see something more powerful than Fiesta ST and its 197 hp.
2019 Ford Fiesta RS future
Recently, Ford confirmed suspicion and fears of the US fans. It seems like the development id paused for now. A few months ago we could hear rumors telling the same. But, no one paid attention. Now, these are coming true, at least for the US market. If these stories are completely right, the 2019 Ford Fiesta RS is not coming to the US, but the hatchback could appear in Europe and China. Well, now it is the patience game. The company will announce soon final plans for the performance-oriented 2019 Fiesta RS hatchback.
2019 Ford Fiesta RS specs
Under the hood of the 2019 Ford Fiesta RS will be a powerful engine. Which one, we still don’t know. According to leaking info, that should be a 2.0-liter EcoBoost. With it, the performance hatch would be able to burst over 250 hp. This is the improvement of 50 horses comparing to the ST model, which uses 1.6-liter inline-four.
Ford to Kill Entire Fiesta Lineup
At this moment, future is not bright for any Fiesta, not only the 2019 Ford Fiesta RS. With the raise of crossovers and their sales, the carmaker is considering discontinuation of some of its cars. Fiesta, Focus, and Fusion fans are not happy to hear about it. Well, sale reports from the first quarter of 2018 are not satisfying. So, bosses might overreacted. However, no big changes and redesigns are on the way for next season. New generations, eventually, will have to wait until 2020.
But, what does mean for 2019 Ford Fiesta RS? With the hold-up, the performance-boosted version will have to wait. Although it is the most exciting model, it won’t be enough to change the hearts of company owners. On the other hand, the second half of 2018 could revive the hatchback and sedan market. This would definitely lead to new plans, and possibly 2019 Ford Fiesta RS. In that case, we must be patient to see this model late next season since the development is on break for now.
2019 Ford Fiesta RS hatchback
While European buyers know mostly Fiesta as a hatchback, fans in the US can purchase it as a sedan. The situation is the same with Focus. In the matter of fact, sedans are even more popular in North America. But, the 2019 Ford Fiesta RS will be a hatchback. No other body style will get the updates Performance Team is creating for it. Other trim levels, except the other performance-oriented ST model, are the same for Fiesta sedan and hatchback. S, SE, or Titanium are choices.
Well, the 2019 Ford Fiesta RS as the hatchback only could be the missing piece of the puzzle. It would be strange for European buyers to wait for the special model of the hatchback, and to get a sedan. To make special parts for both body types requires more money and experiments, testing, development. To exclude European buyers from the RS project wouldn’t be wise. Well, now it seems that US customers are less likely to see the 2019 Ford Fiesta RS.
